New hotel for viewing

Developers of a new downtown Kelowna hotel are offering a glimpse into the future.

Westcorp, which is proposing a 16-storey hotel on the former Willow Inn site on Mill Street, will hold an open house Wednesday afternoon at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, from 4-6 p.m.

The company's VP of operations, Gail Temple, says images of the new hotel design will be available.

She says it's the first time renderings of the proposed street plaza, which Westcorp has been working on with city staff, will be available for viewing.

Construction of the hotel, which was initially approved by city council in 2014, has been delayed several times.

The last delay gave the company a chance to redesign the hotel.

That redesign must now come back to council, and go through another public hearing process, before it can proceed.

The new design would include 174 hotel rooms, 49 residences, a conference centre, restaurant and coffee shop, retail opportunities in the lobby and on Water St., and a 16th floor public “sky-restaurant" and culinary venue.
