Highways a skating rink

UPDATE: 6:30 p.m.

A Honda slid into a ditch on Highway 97, south of Vernon by Kekuli Bay Provincial Park, just after 6 p.m.

Traffic is moving slowly. 

RCMP and fire crews are on scene. 

UPDATE: 2:20 p.m.

Motorists report Highway 33 east of Kelowna is reduced to a single lane due to several crashes.

Readers report extremely icy conditions.

One lane is closed about two kilometres towards Kelowna from the Big White turnoff.

Two other crashes have been reported within a 10-km stretch.

Motorists are being asked to slow down along Highway 33.

At least two vehicles were in the ditch over the noon hour in the Joe Rich area.

A Castanet reader called to say the back end of one of the vehicles, about two kilometres west of Falconridge Crescent, was sticking out onto the highway.

Westbound motorists are warned to slow in that area.

He said about five vehicles were said to be in the ditch along the highway at one point this morning.

Conditions are very slick. Sanding vehicles are now on the highway.
