Video leads to arrest

It didn't take long for police to match up video surveillance images to a suspect in a Thursday morning arson in downtown Kelowna.

Video captured by Castanet surveillance cameras showed a woman deliberately set a fire in a recycling and garbage pile in the alley behind Vancouver Career College about 5:30 a.m.

The resulting damage forced the private school to close for the morning.

Castanet provided the surveillance images to police Thursday afternoon, which resulted in a quick arrest.

"Upon reviewing the footage, police were able to positively identify the suspect as a woman known to them," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

A 26-year-old Kelowna woman of no fixed address was arrested and faces potential arson charges.

The woman remains in custody and is expected to appear in court later today.
