Early Xmas to single mom

A single mother who has three children, two of whom have developmental delay, received an early Christmas present Wednesday. 

Students from The Reformation Academy chipped in to donate a dish washer for Jaclyn Dryburgh and surprised her with the gift. 

"She touched my heart right away because she was talking about how she is the neighbourhood mom, and she once teared up saying food is a high commodity in her house," said Lynn Busby, a student at The Reformation Academy

"People have loved on her and she wants to love on other people, I just wanted to do something for her and when I said 'what would be good for you for Christmas?"

A group of woman delivered the dishwasher to Dryburgh during the evening on Wednesday. 

"I am a low income mom and every year we have been sponsored," said a surprsied Dryburgh.

Dryburgh calls the people who help her Christmas angels. 

"In my family we call them the Christmas angels that way the kids know the presents aren't necessarily from mommy, but there are people out there willing to help out." 

As part of the Christmas Dreams Campaign there will be a one night event for 35 single moms and their 60 some kids.

“We have very little budget, we are counting on donations. What we are doing is we are putting on an event for single moms,” said Busby. “We just want to give as much toys, food and gifts for the moms as we can.”

The event will take place on Dec. 21 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Laurel Packing House.

Donations are being accepted at 1634 Harvey Avenue.

Busby said this wouldn't be possible without the local businesses help such as Candy Cane Lane, KOLU Clothing, SWITCH Consignment, ILS Homes Inc., and Salvation Army.
