Ensuring no hungry kids

Alanna Kelly

Over 4,000 children in the Central Okanagan are at risk of going hungry.

Food for Thought hopes to change that by providing free breakfast to 30 schools in the Central Okanagan.

A Telus Community Grant of $20,000 was provided to Hope for the Nations, who took over operation of Food for Thought on Tuesday.

“It is only through the support of our community partners and our volunteers that we are able to provide breakfast to over 1,500 students in the Central Okanagan,” said Patricia Philipps, executive director.

Schools in Lake Country, West Kelowna and Kelowna will receive the breakfasts.

“We are targeting the children that are most vulnerable but the program is inclusive,” said Katrina Lehenbauer, program co-ordinator.

The grant will be used to supplement the feeding program and provide necessary equipment and required supplies.
