Hotel water line break

UPDATE: 7:15 a.m.

Up to 100 guests at the Royal Anne Hotel spent a chilly, intense hour on the street after fire alarms sounded just before 11 p.m.

Hotel guest Luke Matthews says the initial response was that it had been a false alarm, but guests were shocked to discover the entire lobby was flooded, with water cascading from the ceiling.

"Kelowna fire service was quickly on the scene with one engine, and after assessing the situation, were able to let guests back into the hotel," said Matthews.

"The manager was very apologetic and explained that guests would be able to stay in their rooms despite the fact the mains water had been turned off."

Some guests were offered alternative rooms.

The reception area suffered extensive damage in the incident, the cause of which is not yet known.
