Foreshore cleaned up

Piles of old sandbags that were left on the foreshore of Okanagan Lake in Kelowna have been cleaned up and removed.

The 20,000 sandbags were discovered by a resident walking near Maude Roxby Wetlands Boardwalk Trail and had been left there since flooding in June.

“Since this was brought up, we thought it would be important for us to make sure it was dealt with as fast as we can,” said park services manager Blair Stewart.

Cleanup started eight days ago and now the beach is back to normal.

BC Wildfire crews spent more than 40,000 man-hours producing and deploying more than two million sandbags across the Okanagan during the flooding crisis.
