Kitties for all

The lineup at the Kelowna SPCA wound through the parking lot Saturday as dozens of people came to check out their first pop-up cat café.

The SPCA opened their doors and allowed the public a chance to hang out with the cats they have up for adoption.

The event was a collaboration with Nicole Barron and Jesse Jacobson, the owners of The Scratching Post, a cat café that's set to open in Kelowna next spring.

“We're going to serve coffee, and have adoptable cats and you can come and hang out with some cats, cuddle some or take them home,” Barron said.

Jacobson said Saturday's event was a chance for them to gauge the interest of the community of having a cat café in town.

“It sounds like it's going to be a good turnout,” Jacobson said, looking at the long lineup outside the SPCA.

Cat cafés have popped up in recent years in Vancouver, Washington and London. They give people a chance to have a coffee and spend time with adoptable cats.

The Catfé in Vancouver was forced to temporarily shut its doors in early 2016, just three weeks after opening, after all of their cats were adopted.

“Everybody loves cats,” Jacobson said. “Basically we just want to find some homes for cats, that's our main goal.”
