Semi and BMW collide

UPDATE 4:10 P.M.

There are no serious injuries following the collision of a semi and a BMW sports car along Highway 97 and Airport Way. 

The accident occurred in the southbound lanes. Traffic is moving slowly through the area. 

Both the semi and the car will require tow trucks. 

The Kelowna RCMP are asking motorists to stay out of the area if possible and to obey the directions of the investigators on scene. 

Anyone who witnessed this accident and who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Or you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. 


ORIGINAL 3:50 P.M. 

A BMW sports car and a semi hauling a heavy load of concrete blocks collided in a serious crash near Kelowna Airport Thursday afternoon.

The collision happened about 3 p.m. at Highway 97 and Airport Way.

A single occupant was trapped inside the heavily damaged BMW and was freed by firefighters using the Jaws of Life before being rushed to hospital.

Highway traffic is backed up northbound past the UBC Okanagan overpass. 

Traffic is moving slowly in both directions.
