Hid in bushes, attacked her

RCMP are investigating after a woman was allegedly approached by a man who grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her Sunday in Kelowna.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in the “traumatizing event.”

A woman was standing near the intersection of Kiniski and Creekside roads about 7:45 p.m. when she heard something rustling in the bushes. After a few minutes, she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted.

A struggle ensued, and the woman screamed, causing the man to flee towards Springfield Road.

The woman reported the incident to police the next morning and did not suffer injuries that needed medical attention.

RCMP say the suspect is medium height and build, with light-coloured, buzzed hair and light, tanned skin. He was wearing a plaid, pastel coloured T-shirt and khaki shorts.

“Kelowna RCMP needs to know if there are any others who have come in contact with this same person,” said Cpl. Tania Carroll. “If this has happened to you, it’s very important to contact the RCMP as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Anyone with information should call Const. Kevin Hamilton at 250-762-3300 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
