Phone scam involves RCMP

Police are warning Interior residents of a scam that's making the rounds involving the RCMP's Cops For Kids charity.

The RCMP has received multiple reports of someone calling people in the Southern Interior and asking for donations to the charity.

“In most cases, callers on the phone are seeking donations via credit card for the Cops for Kids charity,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, media relations officer for the RCMP Southeast District.

People have reported the caller is aggressive in their soliciting.

Cops For Kids raises money throughout the year to help local families with children who are in “medical, physical or traumatic crisis.”

The annual Cops For Kids bike ride is coming up in September, but Cpl. Moskaluk says their charity members never engage in phone solicitations to raise money.
