Driver ODs, causes crash

A driver who caused a crash and struck a cyclist on Ethel Street, Tuesday, is believed to have had an overdose behind the wheel.

A 49-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck from behind by a black sedan, which then continued southbound and collided into a second vehicle just after 10 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene said the two people inside the vehicle were found unconscious.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, and a 38-year-old female passenger were given naloxone and were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

RCMP said the man is being investigated for impaired driving.

“The male suspect failed to comply with the investigators’ requests and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and a promise to appear with pending charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and refusal to comply with a demand,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

He is expected to appear in court on Nov. 30.
