Fire now 75% contained

The Okanagan Centre wildfire is now 75 per cent contained.

The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre says firefighters worked through the night putting out spot fires and actioning a flare up during windy conditions.

The fire is currently estimated at 50.3 hectares in size.

An evacuation order remains in place for Nighthawk Road, Long Road, Tyndall Road from south of 10810 to the end of the pavement. The order involves 69 properties. As well, Jack Seaton Park is closed.

Overall, crews made good progress on the fire through the night, the EOC reports.

Windy conditions prompted a flare up on the south end of Tyndall Road, but no homes were impacted. Ground crews will continue putting out spot fires and assessing fire-impacted areas, working toward full containment today.

When it is safe to remove the evacuation order, residents will be allowed home.

RCMP maintained road blocks in the evacuated area and are conducting ongoing patrols. The public is asked to stay away.
