Murder heads to Supreme

The man accused of a March 2016 murder in Rutland will face trial in Supreme Court.

Chad Alphonse, 27, was arrested on the night of March 11, after 26-year-old Waylon Percy Junior Jackson was stabbed to death at a housing complex on Gerstmar Road.

Alphonse's preliminary inquiry began earlier this spring and wrapped up Wednesday. A preliminary inquiry is held to determine if the Crown's case is strong enough to proceed to Supreme Court and involves witness testimony and other evidence.

The details of the preliminary inquiry are protected under a publication ban.

Police said on the night of the stabbing, four people were at the house and neighbours said the occupants had been drinking.

Police believe the victim and accused knew each other.

Alphonse remains out of custody on bail at this time.
