Lakes inch toward normal

The slow recession of both Okanagan and Kalamalka lakes toward normal levels continues.

The level of Okanagan Lake fell another 1.3 centimetres as of 5:25 Wednesday morning. It sits at 342.949 metres above sea level.

Kalamalka Lake dropped 2-1 centimetres to sit at 392.164 metres above sea level.

Despite the steady decline in levels in both lakes, Okanagan and Kalamalka remain well above full pool levels.

It could still be three, or more weeks, before both fall to those ideal levels.

While lake waters recede, numerous regional district, municipal and BC Wildfire Service crews continue to work on cleaning up waterfront beach and parks.

Boat launches at Gellatly Bay and Casa Loma are expected to reopen next Wednesday, if levels continue to fall as they have.

Kelowna opened three boat launches last week.

Residents along the waterfront still in danger of flooding are reminded to continually check flood mitigation measures.
