Lake inches toward 343m

Okanagan Lake continues to inch its way down to a level we haven't seen in more than a month.

The lake dropped another 1.5 centimetres since Wednesday morning. As of 5:30 Thursday, it sat at 343.052 metres above sea level.

Given the rate of drop over the past several days, the lake level should dip below the 343 metre mark on the weekend.

It was May 26 when the level of the lake crept above 343 metres above sea level. It climbed another 24 centimetres before levelling off.

Crews will be busy today removing flood mitigation from some waterfront parks and road ends in Peachland and West Kelowna.

Areas are also being prepared for Canada Day celebrations where possible.

A task force is looking at areas around both City Park and Tugboat Bay in Kelowna to determine just what flood mitigation can be removed from those areas as well.

Yesterday, the Regional District announced several waterfront parks and beaches were opening for the Canada Day long weekend.

These include:

  • Traders Cove Regional Park
  • Kalaimor Regional Park
  • Raymer Bay Regional Park
  • Kaloya Regional Park
  • Reiswig Regional Park
  • Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park
  • Bertram Creek Regional Park
