Body found after fire

A body has been found inside a Kelowna home that was fully engulfed in flames on Saturday morning.

Firefighters arrived to the single-storey residence on Stockwell Avenue at 7:14 a.m., to find smoke and flames billowing from the home. Fire crews on scene said they heard a loud explosion.

The investigation into the fire was handed over to Kelowna RCMP on Saturday night.

Police said the death and fire are both being considered suspicious at this time.

“Police now confirm that a body has been discovered inside the home,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The individual’s death and the circumstances surrounding the fire are still being considered suspicious at this time.”

RCMP did not release any further information about the deceased person until next of kin is notified.

Mike, a neighbour, said the explosion woke him up at around 7 a.m., and said “it felt like a car went through our house.”
