Pretty Kitty adds tech twist

A local children's book author says she was inspired early on by Dr. Seuss.

Alison Yesilcimen's book for young readers, titled Pretty Kitty in the City, adds a tech twist, with an emphasis on selfies.

“Technology is a natural part of our kids’ lives,” she says. “I thought it was important to publish a book that uses technology in a fun and entertaining way.”

The story is about Pretty Kitty, a kitten who loves to take selfies with her new phone. When she tries to take a photo with her pet hamster, Teddy, he escapes.

It's loosely based on her own parenting experience.

"Reading is a great way to spend time with your family and build precious memories. Being present with your kids is important and putting down the electronic devices and picking up a book teaches them how to limit their own use of electronic devices,” she says.

Yesilcimen is launching her book this weekend at Mosaic Books on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Chapters at 2 p.m.

The rhyming book is for children, aged two to six.
