Medical emergency on bus

A Kelowna transit rider suffered a medical emergency while boarding a bus Thursday morning.

BC Transit says it's aware of the incident, which happened about 8 a.m. on Bernard Avenue near Richmond Street.

The man collapsed after loading his bike in the rack on the front of the bus, just as he was entering the vehicle, a resident of the area who witnessed the incident told Castanet.

The bus driver began CPR until paramedics arrived, she said.

Another witness said emergency crews did chest compressions "for a long time" before the victim was rushed to hospital.

"Not sure whether he is OK or not," said the witness.

"Our thoughts are with the person that was involved," a statement from BC Transit read. "The transit operator followed the appropriate protocol by contacting emergency services to attend and support the person."

The patient's condition is unclear.
