Options, but no price

Hundreds of people packed into the Peachland Community Hall on Monday for the Ministry of Transportation public info session on a potential Peachland bypass.

Attendees were presented with five different options for a bypass and an alternative series of four-laning upgrade options for the current Highway 97 route.

The bypass options vary in length from 10 to 15 kilometres, with different hill grades and challenges.

All five would raise significant environmental concerns, with an abundance of wildlife in the area. Recreational users would also be impacted, with horseback riding, four-wheeling and fishing popular in the unpopulated region.

Notably, none of the options have a price-tag attached to them. Full details can be found here.

The province is predicting the District of Peachland's population will grow to 7,700 by 2040.

The Ministry will continue to take feedback online as it develops the preferred options and an alternative, which will be presented at a third open house next year.
