Building up for triathlon

The 34th annual Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon is just a week away.

The event takes place this year on Saturday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 21

As in past years, the 2016 event is a three-day celebration of all things triathlon.

The weekend kicks off with an event EXPO from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. next Friday in Rhapsody Plaza at Waterfront Park.

Saturday's races include the sprint distance Try-A-Tri, corporate challenge along with junior and youth races.

The junior race is also B.C.’s Junior Provincial Championships. Junior race BC Champions are awarded special TriBC medals and are entered into the draw for the TriBC prize packages.

Sunday is set aside for the adult men's and women's races.

The schedule for those races include:

  • 7:10 - Sprint Men
  • 7:15 - Sprint Women
  • 7:45 - Olympic Men
  • 8:15 - Olympic Women

Some traffic and parking restrictions will be in place for at least a portion of the weekend.

Saturday

  • Most parking areas are unaffected by the race on Saturday.
  • Access to / from Prospera Place parking lot will be closed between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Sunday

The following free parking areas may be used all day long:

  • Library Parkade – Ellis St & Doyle Ave. (beside Library).
  • City Hall Parking Lot – Doyle Ave {between Water St & Ellis St}.
  • City Parking Lot –St Paul St & Cawston Ave {south east corner}.
  • Memorial Arena Parking Lot – Ellis St {near Doyle Ave}.
  • Prospera Place Parking Lot – closed for entry between 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM. This lot is pay parking.

Towing

  • Parking is not permitted on the race course for obvious safety reasons. Cars parked on the race course will be towed. The main location for moved vehicles will be the City Hall Parking Lot and the Memorial Arena Parking Lot. However some vehicles may be moved to just around the corner from where they are parked to get them off the race course.
  • If your vehicle is towed, you may call Mario’s Auto Towing at 765-6009 and they will give you location details.
