In an endless cycle of delay after delay, the Jonathan Bacon murder trial has been pushed back once again.
At a pre-trial court appearance in Kelowna this week, a new trial date was set for May 1, 2017, six months later than the most recently set trial date of Nov. 7, 2016, and nearly six years after the incident took place.
The trial before judge and jury is expected to take up to six months.
Jujhar Khun-Khun, Jason Thomas McBride and Michael Hunter Jones have been charged with murder and attempted murder in the flagrant, mid-day execution of well-known gangster Jonathan Bacon.
Bacon was killed in August 2011 when his Porsche Cayenne SUV was riddled with bullets outside the Delta Grand Hotel in Kelowna.
Hells Angel Larry Amero was seriously wounded in the shooting, along with Independent Soldiers member James Raich, who fled the scene with minor injuries.
The alleged shooters were arrested in 2013 as part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation. Khun-Khun, 25, was arrested in Surrey, Jones, 25, was arrested in Toronto, and McBride, 37, was arrested in Vancouver.
Security upgrades have been made at the Kelowna courthouse in the last year. There is speculation these upgrades are in preparation for this high-profile trial.
