Trailer park fight flares

UPDATE: 9:40 a.m.

A man was shot with a flare gun Monday night after a dispute turned violent.

The fight happened at about 9 p.m. inside a home at a trailer park along Highway 97 on the border of Kelowna and Lake Country.

Kelowna RCMP say it escalated to the point where one man shot another man "with a signal flare projectile."

The man was then hit with an unknown object, said Const. Jesse O'Donaghey.

"The victim, a man in his 30s, was treated for non-life threatening injuries by emergency health services and released at the scene," said O'Donaghey.

"The victim, along with several other witnesses at the scene were not forthcoming with investigators. RCMP believe this to be an isolated incident and that the public is not at any risk."

Castanet is receiving reports of a heavy police presence in Winfield.

About 9:45 p.m., news tips started coming in of large numbers of police cruisers heading north past Kelowna Airport with lights and sirens on.

RCMP are apparently swarming a mobile home park just south of Winfield town centre.

One Castanet reader tells us several police cruisers are in the area, and police with guns drawn are on Jim Bailey Road.

Ambulances and fire trucks are staged at the other side of the mobile home park, along Highway 97 and appear to be waiting for an all-clear to enter the park.

Another reader reports four ambulances lined up on the highway and another three heading east from the scene.

Castanet is seeking confirmation from police and will report more details as they become available.
