Kelowna Sex Trade Clamp Down

Local authorities recently teamed up to clamp down on the sex trade in Kelowna.

A total of 12 charges of Communications for the Purpose of Engaging in Prostitution were laid against people looking for sex during the six day campaign which got underway in late April and wrapped up in early May.

An additional nine "johns" were pulled over but not arrested and were given warnings.

The campaign also resulted in the arrest of 26 female prostitutes and one male prostitute.

Three of those charged were between the ages of 15 and 17.

All were released with the condition they stay away from Kelowna's so-called "Red Zone" which includes Richter St. West to the Lake and from Harvey Ave. North to Doyle Ave.
