A spring storm swept through Kelowna Thursday afternoon and evening, causing some havoc throughout town.
Lightning hit the cities main power generator about 7:25 Thursday night, causing the entire city to lose power briefly. Shortly after 8 pm, lightning hit again, this time striking a power pole in the 15 hundred block of Ellis, about a block north of Prospera Place. Some areas in the north end were still without power an hour later.
The lightning strikes brought a halt to play twice during the final period of the Rockets, Medicine Hat Memorial Cup game at Prospera Place. Fortunately, play was not going on either time.
There is no word from Aquila at this time whether any many damage was suffered at the main generator site.
