The road to recovery

The Bodyshop Training Centre held their third annual WODtoberfest in their new gym facility in West Kelowna on Saturday.

The event is a CrossFit competition, where competitors perform workout challenges for points, but this year’s event was raising funds for one of their own.

Cole Bernier has done CrossFit for several years, but an accident in September took him out of this year’s competition.

Bernier was working on a construction site, when some trusses, loaded with 70 sheets of drywall, fell on Cole, breaking his back.

He has been in Vancouver for the past seven weeks, working towards recovery. His trip to the gym on Saturday was his first time back to Kelowna since the accident.

A portion of the registration fees at Satruday’s event will go towards helping Bernier and his family cover the costs associated with his recovery.

Additionally, sales from t-shirts, wristbands and underwear with the hashtag, #BernierStrong, will go to Bernier as well.

The fighting spirit he had before the accident remains today, and he is determined to work towards recovery.
