The Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission has bagged two prestigious awards.

The EDC won the economic development achievement of the year award from the Economic Development Association of Canada for its Okanagan Young Professionals Collective program. The award was presented at EDAC’s 47th national economic development conference in Whitehorse.

The OYP Collective is the first program of its kind facilitated by an Economic Development Organization in Canada. It fosters and supports community groups by helping cross-pollinate memberships, as well as hosting events with a focus on creating a dynamic culture that attracts and retains talented professionals.

The program has raised more than $260,000 in funds and services for non-profits and charities and contributed more than 3,000 volunteer hours of business service valued at $150,000.

COEDC manager Corie Griffiths said: “It is a great honour to have the COEDC’s Okanagan Young Professionals Collective program selected among the many exceptional economic development projects taking place across Canada."

The commission also received the Marketing Canada Award for best brand identity/application for its Make it Here campaign.

The campaign was created to help promote the region with a consistent message that can be applied to any industry and business sector. About 15 companies and multiple organizations, including the Okanagan Centre for Innovation, Accelerate Okanagan and Tourism Kelowna, have made use of the video.
