An SUV sat in the middle of Richter Street near Bernard Avenue this morning, with a crumpled bicycle underneath its front end.
Fortunately there were no injuries in the accident, despite the severe appearance of the accident scene.
The bicyclist was travelling the wrong way, south, on the sidewalk as the SUV was pulling out of a side driveway on the east side of Richter Street at approximately 10 a.m., according to Const. Grant Jacobson.
"She was coming out to turn right, she looked this way (left), and saw traffic was clear," Jacobson said.
The cyclist, who wasn't wearing a helmet, managed to jump off the bike before she was hit, avoiding injury.
Jacobson said the cyclist was "a little shaken up" but did not go to the hospital.
The east lane of Richter Street was closed as police waited for a truck to lift the SUV off the bike.
