Chasing the bacon

If you sort of love jogging and you really love bacon there is a special event just for you this weekend in Kelowna.

The annual Great Canadian Bacon Chase takes place this Sunday Sept. 27 in Kelowna and there is a guarantee that you can eat and chase and taste as much bacon as your heart desires.

The Great Canadian Bacon Chase is a five kilometre scurry or a .05 km saunter to raise money for Kelowna Jaycees.

According to its website, the Jaycees are a group of young male professionals and entrepreneurs, ages 18-40, that strive to grow as individuals while positively impacting the community.

“By running and eating unlimited B.C. bacon you will be helping the communities young leaders,” writes event organizer Kevin Lavigne.

The starting pen for all the pork lovers will be located and at the Parkinson Recreation Centre and the herd of runners will be released down the Rails for Trails.

“There will be multiple B.C. bacon stations along the way to keep you on track and at the top of your game,” adds Lavigne.

“The 0.05 km saunter is the ultimate fast track to pig heaven. Walk 164 feet from the parking lot to the Pig Pen and enjoy the same bacon ecstasy as the five kilometres enjoy.”

Pork lovers of all ages are invited and you can even bring your pooch along to run with you. Organizers remind runners they are not responsible for the bacon induced sweats you may experience.

The cost to run in this porktastic event depend on your years of bacon eating experience.

• $40.00 V.I.P. (Very Important Porklover)
• $25.00 Future V.I.P. (Ages 12-17)
• $15.00 Bacon Bits (Ages 7-11)
• $5 Cracklins (Ages 6 & Under)

For joining in this special event, each runner will receive unlimited B.C. bacon, Starbucks coffee and a pancake breakfast with more bacon. V.I.P.'s will also receive a one of a kind Great Canadian Bacon Chase t-shirt from Dogs Ear.
