Fire destroys barn

Water had to be shuttled by tenders to fight a barn fire in Kelowna's Belgo area, late Monday.

At 9:54 p.m., the Kelowna Fire Department responded to multiple reports of the fire on Belgo Road.

Flames were shooting from two barns on the property, says Platoon Capt. Dennis Miller.

One of the barns is a complete loss, but other out-buildings on the property were saved.

Because fire hydrants were not close enough for firefighters to hook up their hoses, water to fight the fire was shuttled in.

Three fire engines, one rescue vehicle, two water tenders, a command vehicle and safety officer responded to the blaze, with assistance from B.C. Ambulance Service, RCMP and FortisBC.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and fire investigators will be on scene today.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, says Miller.
