Students from the North, Central and South Okanagan, Kootenay Boundary and Similkameen proved they know about local environmental issues by competing in the Environmental Mind Grind Play-offs Saturday at the OUC South Campus Theatre.
Kelowna's Anne McClymont Elementary won the highly contested Elementary School Division. Silver Star Elementary from Vernon was second.
Riverside Intermediate School from Princeton were the winners of the Middle School Challenge and Skaha Lake Middle School placed second.
Princess Margaret Senior Secondary from Penticton won the High School Challenge.
First place teams received $1000 cash for their school and fleece vests for themselves. Second place teams received a pizza party for their school and funky caps.
The Partners in Environmental Education who organized the “Mind Grind” include the Regional Waste Reduction Office, the City of Kelowna Environmental Division, Regional Parks and Recreation, Gorman Brothers, Riverside Forest Products, Water Smart, and the Regional Districts of North Okanagan, Okanagan Similkameen and Kootenay Boundary.
