Inn from the Cold to open

With the temperatures dropping to negative digits this week, those that need a place to stay overnight now have another option.

Kelowna’s Inn from the Cold officially opens today (Saturday), with 35 beds available to serve the most vulnerable homeless members of the community.

“Every winter, Inn from the Cold opens to ensure that no one has to sleep outside. By providing additional shelter services in Kelowna, we are able to work together with our community partners to ensure no one falls between the cracks and is left out in the cold,” said Tara Tschritter, IFTC Agency Coordinator.

Men and women, transgendered, couples, pets, and individuals with various barriers are welcomed to a bed, after vulnerability assessment is completed and priority sequence is determined.

The volunteer-based, charity organization relies on donations and fundraising efforts to cover operating expenses and says many people have already been accessing their store for blankets and warmer clothing.
