TRU building new performance centre for WolfPack athletes

TRU building athletic centre

Thompson Rivers University is moving ahead with plans for a new on-campus athletic performance centre for WolfPack varsity athletes.

A deadline passed last week for contractors looking to submit proposals to finish the new facility, which will be located inside the TRU Gym, across TRU Way/Dalhousie Drive from the Tournament Capital Centre.

The facility will be a high-performance training centre to accommodate training for the TRU Wolfpack’s varsity athletes, who currently train at the city-owned TCC.

The proposed performance centre will include an 1,683-square-foot training area for accessory exercises and a 111-foot by 29-foot mezzanine with lifting platforms for warm-up, speed work and primary exercises.

The training area will have rubber gym flooring and will be separated from the mezzanine area by a glass storefront wall with both garage and swing door access.

The mezzanine will be a slab on grade with Mondo running track flooring or equivalent, and will have an area approximately 70 feet long that will be fitted for two or three lifting platforms.

The request for proposals was issued just before Christmas with the estimated budget for the work outlined in the document approximately $260,000. The deadline for proposals was last Monday.

Castanet Kamloops asked TRU and TRU Athletics for information about the facility, but none was provided.

Renovation work is underway.
