Missing man found dead

UPDATE: 9:10 a.m.

Police have confirmed the body of a young Kamloops man was recovered from a vehicle found Sunday down a steep embankment off the Summit Connector.

Jakob Gibbon, 22, was last seen by family on Dec. 28. He left his family’s North Kamloops home sometime after 11 p.m. driving a white Dodge Avenger.

RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said the vehicle was located at about 4:10 a.m. She said Gibbon’s body was found along with the car.

“According to the investigation so far, it appears as though the crash likely occurred around a similar timeframe of when the man was reported missing,” she said.

“It is a sad outcome and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.”

Evelyn said next-of-kin notification has been completed. She said police and the BC Coroners Service are investigating.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call police at 250-828-3000.
