No injuries after truck fire

There were no injuries after a pickup truck caught fire on Tranquille Road on Tuesday night.

Tranquille Road was briefly closed in both directions near Royal Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. as emergency crews responded to the vehicle fire.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Captain Chris Pretula told Castanet the driver had just finished fuelling up at the nearby Canco gas station when he noticed “what he thought was steam” coming out of the truck.

“He pulled over, and someone from the liquor store was like ‘Hey man, your car is on fire,’” Pretula said, adding the bystander helped the driver safely out of the truck.

Pretula said police called a tow truck to haul away the burned pickup.

Tranquille Road was reopened to traffic at about 10:15 p.m.
