Campout to End Youth Homelessness to return with an in-person event

Campout fundraiser returns

A Way Home Kamloops will be hosting its sixth annual campout fundraiser in December, an overnight event where residents sleep outside to raise awareness of youth homelessness in the community.

According to organizers, the Campout to End Youth Homelessness will return as in-person event for the first time since the pandemic, although residents can attend virtually as well.

“This annual fundraiser helps shine a light on youth homelessness in Kamloops,” said a statement on A Way Home Kamloops’ website.

“Community members spend a night outside in cardboard boxes in honour of youth who are without a home. Campers are encouraged to raise pledges and donations that fund crucial programs that support homeless youth.”

A Way Home Kamloops has a goal to raise $150,000 through the campout. Last year, over $101,000 was raised, with the money being set aside to fund programming at Katherine’s Place, a future supportive building for youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

The campout will be held at McDonald Park on Friday, Dec. 9. The event will begin at 6 p.m.

Those who wish to participate or help sponsor the campout can register online through A Way Home Kamloops’ website.
