Weapon used in dinnertime robbery at North Shore restaurant, police say

Robbery at restaurant

Police are investigating an alleged armed holdup Tuesday at a North Shore fast food restaurant.

Mounties were called to a fast-food restaurant on Fortune Drive just after 5:30 p.m. for a report of a robbery.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said investigators believe a woman entered the restaurant, produced a weapon and a note and made off with cash and an employee’s cellphone.

Evelyn said the suspect and another woman fled on bikes.

“Thanks to the assistance of a witness who saw the women fleeing and captured them on video, police were able to locate and arrest one of the suspects shortly after,” she said.

“Images of the second woman were distributed to officers, who later recognized and arrested her while responding to another call for service.”

Evelyn said the stolen cellphone was also recovered. It is not clear what type of weapon is alleged to have been used in the robbery.

Both women were released with conditions and court dates. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the alleged robbery can call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the robbery was at McDonald's on Fortune Drive. It was actually at a nearby Subway. Castanet Kamloops regrets the error.
