Yew Street Food Hall slated to open next month on North Shore

A new North Shore food concept is slated to open in less than a month.

The Yew Street Food Hall, located at 107 Yew St., has been in the making for more than two years.

Jeff Mitton, co-owner of the food hall, said he thinks it will fit right in with the other food and drink options already available along the Tranquille corridor.

“We’re very cohesive with what Red Beard and Bright Eye are doing over here, sort of probably the same sort of clientele we're looking at,” Mitton told Castanet Kamloops.

“I think it's just sort of a good fit for everything that's going on in this corridor right now.”

In typical food hall fashion, Yew Street will have multiple vendors with different types of food — but it’s a little fancier than your average food court, Mitton said.

“People sometimes say, “Oh, when is your food court opening?’ And really it's not a food court,” he said.

“I can see where the comparison lies. If you had to sort of compare it to a food court, it would be sort of like a food court that is a little more upscale with some alcohol service.”

Mitton said he wants it to be the kind of place people just want to come to hang out. He envisions it as a place that has something for everyone.

The Yew Street Food Hall will feature Mittz and Co., a product of Mittz Kitchen, which includes a stall for craft cider, beer and wine and another for craft cocktails. The Mittz and Co. stalls will be alongside a variety of other food options from local business owners.

One vendor will have two stalls, Mitton said. The vendor knocked down the wall to make one big stall featuring two concepts — tacos called under the name Taco Rojo and Porcinis, which will serve pasta.

Mitton said hiring for the new location has been going well but there are still multiple positions needing to be filled.

“We've got a lot of stuff going on and we need lots of great people. If anybody out there is looking for a job, definitely, you can contact myself or my brother Steve, just through Mittz Kitchen or even come drop off a resume down there,” Mitton said.

Interested applicants can drop off their resumes at Mittz Kitchen, 277 Victoria St.
