Police seek gunman, getaway driver after armed robbery in Savona

Armed holdup at gas station

Mounties are investigating an armed holdup Tuesday at a gas station on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Kamloops.

According to police, a man entered a gas station in the 7000-block of the highway in Savona at about 10:20 p.m., pulled a gun and demanded lottery tickets and cigarettes.

“The man fled from the store and jumped on the back of a black street motorcycle, driven by his accomplice who was waiting nearby,” RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

The suspect was wearing a black and orange motorcycle helmet with the number 509 on the side.

Evelyn said Mounties making patrols in the area caught up with the motorcycle near Deer Drive. One of the men dropped a bag containing the stolen items and the pair sped away.

Mounties returned the stolen cash and tickets to the store.

Anyone with information about the incident, or any drivers in the area with dash cam footage, are asked to contact police at 250-314-1800.
