Submit questions for Kamloops' mayor through new city platform

Questions for the mayor?

Kamloops residents curious about the mayor’s thoughts on city projects and issues are invited to submit their questions through a new online platform.

The City of Kamloops has launched Ask the Mayor, a way for residents to send their questions to Mayor Ken Christian.

Christian introduced the new platform at a city council meeting on June 28.

“This is an initiative that arises out of some of the feedback I've had about us turning off the feedback on some of our social channels, and also an opportunity to summarize some of the activities of council,” Christian said.

In mid-June, the City of Kamloops announced it would be disabling comments on its Facebook page citing a “decline in civility.”

Christian said Ask the Mayor will also serve as a platform “to set the record straight on some misinformation.”

He said when enough questions are submitted he will answer them in a video.

The Ask the Mayor webpage bills itself as an opportunity to “delve into [Christian’s] thoughts, frustrations, challenges, and hopes and dreams for the future of Kamloops.”

“Mayor Christian will candidly share his perspective while providing insight on how and why decisions are made, how to successfully forge ahead amidst continued growth, and how to continue tackling the big conversations such as affordable housing, social issues, health care, policing, transit and climate change,” the website said.

The platform can be found on the City of Kamloops website.
