WCT unveils new shows

Western Canada Theatre has unveiled its 2022-2023 schedule — and it has something for everyone.

The Kamloops based theatre company said after last years successful return to live events, they are looking forward to bringing seven productions to the Tournament Capital starting in the fall.

According to WCT, the upcoming season includes three world premieres, a beloved holiday classic, the return of a WCT fan favourite, new Canadian comedies, and one of the most popular musicals of all time.

“It was such a joy to return to the theatre last season, and be together again,” WCT artistic director, James MacDonald said in a release.

“I look forward to another outstanding season starting in just a few months, with thrilling and thought-provoking world premieres, hilarious comedy, warm family experiences, and terrific music. I can't wait to share it with you—I can guarantee we're going to have a good time, together!”

Kicking off the new season in October at the Sagebrush Theatre is the world premiere of Sleight of Mind, based on true events, WCT said it explores the life of the most documented paranormal psychic in history.

During the holidays, It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play will be at the Sagebrush Theatre.

As a sequel to a show last season, WCT said Rick Miller will be returning to Kamloops to preform BOOM X— the sequel to BOOM, and will take audience members through the 70s, 80s, and 90s with Miller’s signature style of stunning visuals and impersonations.

In February, the award-winning play ‘Hurry Hard’ a Canadian curling love story by Canadian playwright Kristen Da Silva, will be at the Sagebrush Theatre.

According to WCT, ‘Grease’ — one of the most popular musicals of all time — will be getting a bit of a make over in April. WCT announced it would be giving the T-bird a fresh coat of paint with an all new locally created production of the all-time classic rock n’ roll musical.

The Pavilion Theatre will see two world premieres from diverse Canadian creators, WCT said, First Métis Man of Odesa is based on actual events, as a global love story set against the backdrop of the COVID pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Subscription packages for the 2022-23 season will be available starting Tuesday, WCT said.
