Blue River flood warning downgraded as river begins to recede

Flood warning downgraded

The B.C. River Forecast Centre has downgraded a flood warning for Blue River.

The warning was issued on Wednesday and downgraded on Thursday afternoon.

Flood watches remain in effect for the North Thompson River and its tributaries, the South Thompson River and its tributaries, the Shuswap River and the Thompson River between Kamloops and Spences Bridge.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre said Blue River peaked on Wednesday and is now receding, following a period of heavy rain.

“Warming temperatures over the weekend and into next week will lead to accelerated snowmelt rates where snow remains, however there remains uncertainty over the extent to which the available remaining snowpack will be able to fuel significant additional rises to rivers next week,” the agency said in an update on Thursday.

The City of Kamloops will provide an update on flooding on Friday morning.
