Man taken to hospital with serious injuries after Highland Road collision, police say

Emergency crews are on scene on Highland Road between Valleyview and Juniper Ridge for a collision described by police as "serious."

UPDATE: 4:09 p.m.

Police say a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision on Highland Road Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m., Mounties responded to the utility access road just off of Highland Road for a collision involving a cyclist and a commercial vehicle.

At about 3:50 p.m., police said the roadway reopened to alternating lanes of traffic.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed or has dash cam footage of the incident to contact RCMP at 250-828-3000.

Traffic is snarled on Highland Road, between Juniper Ridge and Valleyview, after a "serious" collision on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to a stretch of Highland Road just before 3 p.m. for a report of a crash. Witnesses in the area said the collision involved a cyclist.

Police have the lanes heading south into Juniper Ridge closed as of 3:20 p.m., but traffic appears to be moving north from Juniper to Valleyview.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area. RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn called the collision a "serious motor vehicle incident."

Traffic on Valleyview Drive in the area is moving very slowly.
