Casimir acclaimed Chief of Shuswap Nation Tribal Council

Casimir the next Tribal Chief

The Shuswap Nation Tribal Council has acclaimed its next Tribal Chief.

Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc (Kamloops) First Nation was the sole nominee for the position and therefore was acclaimed.

Casimir says it is an “honour” to step into the role of Tribal Chair and spokesperson for the collection of First Nations.

“I am committed to the challenge of continuing the inspiring work of the Secwépemc Nation,” she said.

The Shuswap Nation Tribal Council consists of nine member bands in the Thompson, Shuswap and Cariboo regions.

Casimir takes over from Wayne Christian, who served for 12 years at Tribal Chief and has contributed to his Splatsin community for over four decades. Casimir was appointed to the position on a temporary basis in January after Christian lost the Splatsin election.
