Crews completed final section of path upgrades at McArthur Island, city says

Paved park path complete

A new paved multi-use pathway has been completed on McArthur Island.

Jeff Putnam, parks and facilities manager for the city, said in a statement Thursday that crews have finished the final section of path upgrades, completing a paved circuit around the entire park.

“Over the last two years, we’ve put a lot of work into upgrading McArthur Island, and part of that was repaving the multi-use pathway to make it accessible for everyone,” Putnam said.

The city said work started in October to upgrade the dike along Rivers Trail on McArthur Island between 12th Street and Mackenzie Avenue.

The trail was previously a gravel route, but is now fully paved and three metres wide. The city said this accessible path will can be used by those of all ages and abilities.

According to the city, work crews will be back in the spring to finish landscaping.

The city said this is one of several upgrades McArthur Island has seen over the past year, including new paved roadways, a new playground and disc golf course upgrades.
