Weekly Kamloops-area COVID-19 case counts fall 30 per cent

Local cases down sharply

The number of new cases of COVID-19 in the Kamloops area was down sharply last week, dipping beneath 100 for the first time in more than three months.

According to the latest data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, 92 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the Kamloops local health area between Nov. 14 and Nov. 20 — the most recent period for which there is data.

That number is down from 132 the week before, which represents a decrease of more than 30 per cent.

The last time the Kamloops area recorded less than 100 cases in a week was the week ending Aug. 7, when the local health area counted 59 cases. After that, fourth-wave case counts skyrocketed and have remained high.

Over the last six weeks, the Kamloops local health area has averaged 127, or 18 documented cases per day.

The Kamloops local health area includes the city as well as Sun Peaks, Barriere, Chase, Logan Lake and Savona, as well as surrounding rural communities.
