Speakers at Saturday's rally
The Peace for Pride gathering in Riverside Park on Saturday raised over a thousand dollars for queer safe spaces in Kamloops, said Tre Rhiness, organizer of the event.
A rally and march were planned at the downtown park to show support for the local trans community, but Rhiness said he was surprised with how many people showed up.
“It was way better than I was expecting,” Rhiness told Castanet Kamloops.
According to the organizer, about 200 people showed up and the group was able to raise more than $1000 for their cause.
The group gathered at Riverside Park at 3 p.m. Speakers addressed the crowd before the colourful group of marchers took to downtown then looped back to the bandshell.
