Police, SD73 aware of anti-vax group labelling trustees 'enemy'

Anti-vax group targets SD73

Police and school district officials say they are aware of a local anti-vax group that has labelled School District 73’s board of education “public enemy No. 1” and published personal contact information for SD73 trustees.

A group called Take Action Kamloops launched a website and social media pages last month. Members share anti-vax links and videos on social media, and the group’s website contains information consistent with conspiracy theories popular among those opposed to COVID-19 vaccines and masking.

The website includes a photo of SD73’s board under the heading “public enemy No. 1,” imploring members to contact trustees and linking to their personal Facebook accounts.

Castanet Kamloops asked SD73 if it knew about the website and board chair Rhonda Kershaw provided a statement in response.

“The board is aware of the site and that vaccinations and masks have become polarizing issues in social media,” she said.

“The board of education implements the health guidelines and measures from the provincial health officer and Interior Health.”

Police also confirmed they are aware of the website. Kamloops RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said Mounties were in touch Thursday with SD73 officials regarding the situation.

Castanet Kamloops reached out to the group and asked for a spokesperson who could provide information about why SD73 trustees had been labelled “public enemy No. 1.”

The group was not interested.

“We have looked into your reporting and it appears you, like many reporters, are very untrustworthy,” an unnamed person wrote in an email response.
