Métis Nation British Columbia to create Métis family resource centre, rental housing in Kamloops

$3.8M Metis land deal

Métis Nation British Columbia has purchased almost $4 million of land in Kamloops, with plans of building a resource centre and affordable housing for Métis families.

MNBC said the purchase, totalling $3.8 million is the first step in completing its plan of creating Métis centres across the province in all seven regions.

The Kamloops land will see construction of affordable rental housing for Métis families, a Métis childcare centre and office space for a child protection and support services office, Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services, and the Two Rivers Métis Society.

According to MNBC, the funding was provided under the Canada-Métis Nation Housing Sub-Accord and will members of the Métis Nation control over the design, delivery and administration of housing services.

The federal government’s 2018 budget outlined a $500 million investment over 10 years to support the Métis Nation’s housing strategy.
