Officer suffers minor injuries after being punched by man during arrest

A police officer was injured on Monday in an altercation with a man being arrested on a mental health warrant.

According to Mounties, officers were making the arrest in the 200-block of Victoria Street.

“When police located the man, he allegedly attempted to flee, then punched in the head a police officer who stopped him,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

“The officer suffered a minor injury, but is expected to fully recover.”

Evelyn said the man was taken to hospital.
